At one time this guitar had 2 pick guards on the top, so while the pick guard looks old & good, it is probably not original
This is a 000-18 with a longer OM scale length
The Bar frets were removed some time ago by McCabe's Music. At that time they reinforced the neck with 2 rods. The bars were high quality low weight metal...not the "crappy" metal some large manufacturers used at the time...the work was done by the lead repairman at McCabe's in Santa Monica, CA. The guitar retained its' neck to body balance after the addition of the bars. This information came from a fellow performer and close friend & of Lewis Ross, the owner of the guitar at the time the work was performed.
The neck is straight and has great action, it is a joy to play
Ebony fretboard with dot position markers
Ebony belly bridge with through saddle
All metal, original tuning machines
The top has some overspray
A wider nut was replaced by renown luthier, John Arnold. He also repaired several cracks and performed a neck set in 2017.
The back & sides have the original, lacquer finish
The bindings are black fiberloid plastic
There is one oval patch in one side
This guitar was owned and played by Lewis Ross, a popular player in the San Francisco area in the late '60's. We have an older, ill - fitting case with his name on it.
For now, we have put it in a proper 000 TKL case, which fits it perfectly.
